Environmental Sculpture

The Garden was an environmental sculpture built on the grounds of the Bemidji High School in Bemidji MN and grew from 2001 to 2007. BHS students and visitors to the garden could stand on the center mound within a circular turf wall and speak, and her/his voice will seemed amplified to the speaker but the volume would not carry to others. The unexpected intimacy of hearing one’s voice so clearly in the natural environment, without mechanical devices, surprised most people, and delighted the High School students for whom it was designed. Funded by Forecast Public Artworks and Region 2 Arts Council.
